Team Up to Fight Hunger was the brainchild of Lon Ricker of Ricker Dynamics and Jason Greiner of the Wylie EDC.
Team Up to Fight Hunger is a collaboration of Wylie, Sachse and Murphy community partners that came together during the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic to promote and support local restaurants and workers while providing food to individuals and families through the local food pantries. Since pantries were having a hard time getting provisions and the need was increasing, we partnered with the restaurants, who were also struggling for business.
- More than 900 families received hot, hearty and fresh restaurant meals thanks to donors to Team Up to Fight Hunger!
- Moreover, nearly $25,000 in donations were paid out to 13 local area restaurants to feed these families in need.
- People fed, local businesses supported, a real win-win!
What if nonprofits could partner with restaurants to not only feed those in need, but to increase the need for the restaurant to hire back their staff?
Those in need can receive quality meals for their families, extending the need for the next visit to the food pantry. At the same time, the restaurant staff are no longer needing to go to the pantry and once again have money to spend at area businesses for their other needs.
